Effective masking in multiple conditions
How Multicam® works
Multicam® was developed based on how the human eye and brain perceive shape, volume and color. Its high-resolution design relies not only on contrast, but also on a background-blending effect, helping the observer perceive the model as a natural part of the environment.
This principle allows the model to remain effective in a wide variety of conditions and even at shorter distances, where low-resolution models can become more easily distinguished from the natural environment.
How it was developed
The development of MultiCam® began with the study of natural camouflage and environments where concealment is difficult, taking into account terrain, light, season, altitude and region. The observations were transformed into digital compositions, tested and adjusted in the field together with military users.
The Multicam pattern was developed by Crye Precision within programs carried out together with research structures of the US Army, and in 2010 it was adopted for American soldiers deployed in Afghanistan, under the name Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern.
Tests and feedback from approximately 750 soldiers showed that it offered better visual integration than the UCP pattern in the Afghan terrain, and the number of casualties was approximately 20% lower due to the camouflage capacity of the Multicam fabric.
Tactical performance in visible and infrared
The ReArm® Multicam® collection uses original Multicam® materials , selected for a balance between camouflage, durability, comfort and operational behavior.
All Multicam® materials used in ReArm® products are chosen for their camouflage ability in both the visible and infrared ranges , helping to reduce the user’s visual signature in varying terrain and observation conditions.
